The Olympics – the five rings and the goals.

The Olympic Rings create an image of what we call Olympism. The founder of these rings, Pierre du Coubertin, felt that the rings were of vital importance to the Olympic Games and the Olympics which symbolised the union between men and women all over the world.

He created a special image of multiple rings that is five distinct rings, which were in subsequent years used on the Olympic Flag to mark the 20th year anniversary celebration of the International Olympics Commission’s foundation on the 23 rd of June, in the year 1914 at Paris, France. These five rings consist of one blue, one yellow, one black, one green and one red ring. The symbolism of these rings is that each ring is representative of the five different continents wherein the white background is said to symbolise peace and harmony between these five continents, and thus it is the meeting of athletes from all the five various continents, of the whole world, at the Olympic Games.

The Olympics had something called an Olympic Movement. This was also created by Pierre du Coubertin and an International Olympic Committee in a ceremony held at The University of Sorbonne in Paris, France on the 23rd of June, in the year 1894. It was seen that two year later in the year 1896 the first modern Olympic Games were held in Athens in Greece.

Each emblem or logo of each year of the Olympics has its own story to tell. The Beijing 2008 Olympic Games symbolise “Chinese Seal – Dancing Beijing” which is overflowing with Beijing’s hopes and hospitality, carrying the commitment of the city to the participating athletes, teams and countries.

The Olympic Games’ theme slogan is to express the common wishes of all the people in each and every nook and cranny of the world, which is inspired by the ideals of the Olympics thus trying to create a brighter and better future for all of mankind., the slogan being – “One World – One Dream.”
